Seven New Tech Campuses Changing the Face of Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley's economy is firing on all cylinders, and the region's well-established tech companies are on a real estate spending spree. A plethora of new office buildings are springing up throughout the region, but a only handful of firms are planning projects that will truly shake up the Valley's oft-bland architectural scene. Seeing as two of those companies, Apple and Google, were recently declared the most valuable businesses on earth, their willingness to spend big bucks on fancy new digs should come as no surprise. That being said, they aren't the only ones with sky-high architectural ambition. Know of a project that deserves to be on the list, but hasn't been featured? Apple HQ

British Starchitect Norman Foster is designing Apple's new 2.8M square foot campus. The ring-shaped building will only cover 13% of the 176 acre site in the heart of Cupertino. The campus will be flooded with natural light and surrounded by lush parkland. Construction workers are in the process of clearing the massive site in preparation for construction.

Central & Wolfe

Central & Wolfe is a new tech-oriented office development located just between the Lawrence and Sunnyvale Caltrain stations. The building, designed by HOK Architects, will achieve LEED platinum certification and will open in March of 2016.

Samsung HQ

Samsung is building a 10-story, NBBJ-designed tower clad in white metal, glass and terracotta at the corner of North First and East Tasman Drive in San Jose. The new HQ will house 2,000 employees and include an amenity wing, as well as a cafe and exposition space. The building is currently under construction and is due for completion in mid-2015.

Facebook West Campus

Facebook is building a new campus just west of its current Menlo Park HQ. The 435,000 square foot building will be used by 2,800 employees and will feature extensive amounts of green space. The project, which is being designed by famed architect Frank Gehry, should be finished in 2015.

Nvidia HQ

Nvidia, a graphics chipmaker, has put grand plans for a Gensler-designed facility across from their current Headquarters on hold for an undetermined period of time. If built, the triagular-shaped structures will yield 1M square feet of office space, and bring bold architecture to cookie-cutter Santa Clara.

Google Bay View Campus

Google has pushed back plans to build a massive new "Bay View" campus on the former site of the NASA-Ames research center in Mountian View. The project is now scheduled to be built in three phases, with construction wrapping up by 2022. The new buildings will house between 3,500 and 5,000 employees, and will feature stunning views of the Bay and surrounding wetlands.

North San Jose Mystery Project

Peery-Arrillaga will soon begin construction on a new, 10-building complex with over 2 million square feet of commercial space on Brokaw Road in San Jose. A tenant has already been secured, though there's no word yet on who the mystery mega-tenant could be.
