Change is afoot in southeast San Francisco. With real estate prices in the stratosphere elsewhere around town, it's no surprise that formerly development-free areas in the southeastern quadrant of the city are starting to come alive with new development. Better transit connections, new residential buildings as well as improved parks and schools are sure to change the face of Bayview Hunters-Point and Visitacion Valley in the coming years, assuming the plans in the pipeline come to fruition. Today's map takes a holistic look at blossoming southeast San Francisco and is, as always, chock full of details and renderings. Think we should have included a project that doesn't appear in today's feature? Comment below or drop us a line. Now, without further ado, a map of 20 southeastern neighborhood game-changers.

Mapping 20 Southeastern Neighborhood Game-Changers

Hunters Point Redevelopment
Lennar Development will transform a Superfund site in to a brand new neighborhood with waterfront access, a marina, parks as well as new commercial and residential buildings. Final approvals have been granted and pricing for the first units has been released. Construction will take place in phases over the next decade.
Executive Park Plan
In the coming years, new residential and commercial development should replace what is currently a suburban-style office park adjacent to Candlestick Point and the Bayshore Freeway
Schlage Lock Redevelopment
New residential units and public parks are planned for the former Schlage Lock Co. factory site in Visitacion Valley. The project has been in limbo for the last few years, but progress is looking more and more likely as momentum in the neighborhood continues to grow.
Little Hollywood Park Renovation
The upper section of Little Hollywood Park will get new pathways, picnic tables, benches, trash receptacles, and refurbished barbecues. A new retaining wall and improved landscaping will also be added by the end of next summer.
Caltrain Accesss Improvements
The SFCTA wants to make better use of the isolated Bayshore Caltrain Station by increasing connectivity with surrounding neighborhoods and other modes of transportation. One option includes extending the T-Third to serve the underutilized station.
Sunnydale Redevelopment
HOPE SF wants to transform the Sunnydale housing project in to a vibrant community with over 1,700 units of mixed-income housing. The project is also shooting for LEED Gold certification.
Mansell Corridor Improvements
The SFDPW has plans to transform desolate Mansell Street with improved trails, lighting and signage. No word yet on when the project is set to be completed.
Caltrain Oakdale Station Study
The SFCTA is exploring the possibility of adding a Caltrain station to a poorly served area of Bayview. Plans are still preliminary, with potential funding sources yet to be secured.
Willie Brown Jr. Academy
A completely rebuilt Willie Brown Jr. Academy should open its doors in 2015. The project will cost $40 million.
Hunters View Revitalization
HOPE SF has already completed the first phase of the massive redevelopment of the Hunters View housing project. All public housing units will be rebuilt, with new affordable and market-rate homes added to the mix.
Alice Griffith Revitalization
The Alice Griffith housing complex will receive the same type of redevelopment seen at Hunters View. The buildings currently occupying the site will be razed to make way for a new mixed-income community.
Geneva-Harney BRT Study
The Geneva-Harney BRT is in still in the preliminary study phase, but should move forward as more residential units take shape out in Hunters Point. The rapid bus line would run down Geneva, connecting S.F.'s southeastern neighborhoods with Balboa Park Bart and City College.
India Basin Shoreline Plan
The Planning Department wants "new mixed-use development along Innes Avenue, water-oriented and recreational activities, and improved pedestrian waterfront access" along the India Basin Shoreline. [UPDATE: This plan depended on the Redevelopment Agency which is now nonexistent, so who knows what could happen to the site.]
Brisbane Baylands
The Brisbane Baylands project hopes to transform a polluted 684 acre site in to a "new hub for Bay Area cleantech". Before the project can get going, the area needs serious environmental remediation and infrastructure upgrades.
Candlestick Point Redevelopment
Candlestick Park will be torn down at some point next year, at which point Lennar Development will commence construction on thousands of new homes, commercial spaces and parks. Those anxious to see what the neighborhood will look like can check out Lennar's recently released promotional video.
Palou Complete Street
SFDPW plans to upgrade Palou Avenue in Bayview with new lighting, landscaping and traffic calming upgrades. A schedule has yet to be set for the project.
Caltrain Electrification
Caltrain's electrification will reduce pollution levels along the rail lines running right through S.F.'s southeast and bring better service to Caltrain riders.
Bayview Hill Trail Improvements
Bayview park features incredible views and will soon receive much-needed upgrades to the worn paths that connect the little-known gem to its surrounding neighborhoods. The improvements should be complete by 2015.
McLaren Bike Park
Cycling enthusiasts hope to transform a barren stretch of land in McLaren Park next to the Sunnydale housing complex in to a massive new bike park. Funding is currently in place for phase 1.
Phillip & Sala Burton Renovation
DLM Architecture will revitalize the crumbling Philip & Sala Burton Academic High School by next September.
