The San Francisco Planning Department recently updated its “development pipeline”—an exhaustive disclosure of every new building project entitled or seeking entitlements in the city—to reflect the balance of upcoming housing.
In theory, the pipeline is quite busy these days with some 73,502 new units listed as incoming, with 14,346 of them designated affordable housing.
However, looking at the full breakdown, which lists over 2,000 individual development projects, the biggest housing boons are all multi-phase projects that will take years—or in some cases decades—to complete. A few of the projects haven’t even gotten permits.
In all, said projects comprise 63 percent of planned new housing.
