The 14 most beautiful places to get married in San Francisco

Looking for a lovely wedding venue in the city? Start here.

View as Map

Destination weddings are awful. They’re only fun for the couple getting married—and no one else. Instead, treat your friends family, who are already forking over time and big bucks to honor you on your big day, to a ceremony in San Francisco.

Should you and your paramour agree to exchange vows in the city, the other big question will be: Where will you two get hitched?

Most weddings happen during the summer months. And while folks looking to get married within the 7x7-mile confines of San Francisco have limited options—City Hall being one of the easiest and most stunning—it doesn’t hurt to plan ahead.

Curbed SF has pulled together some of the most beautiful spots in San Francisco where you can have a wedding, from a flower-filled conservatory in Golden Gate Park to an artisan cafe in the heart of the Mission, and everything in between.

All of these spots will also wed same-sex couples or anyone of any denomination, or lack thereof.

Golden Gate Club

Built in 1949, the Golden Gate Club is a former enlisted men’s service club and the site of many historic treaty signings. Today it is a popular place to say “I do.” The highlight of this Spanish Colonial Revival building is the six-foot fireplace and the floor-to-ceiling windows, which offer up views of the Presidio and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Flood Mansion

Once the home of a silver baron, it’s now the toniest for your white (or otherwise) wedding. Working out of the Beaux Arts tradition the designers used a Italian Renaissance design for the Flood Mansion. After four rising steps, the arched entrance is flanked by two Corinthian columns. And inside, the look is sleek yet classic. Up to 9,232 square feet can be rented out for you and 300 or so of your closest friends and family.

Haas-Lilienthal House

The Victorian home, built in 1886, is ideal for parties of approximately 90 guests. It’s also the place to use if you want to impress out of town guests. Most impressive—the winding staircase to descend for the ultimate entrance. The Haas-Lilienthal House acts as a museum part time, too, so it’s both parts educational and entertaining.

The Julia Morgan Ballroom

If you want to do your wedding downtown, then do it right. Do it inside one of the Financial District’s most glamorous and oh-so SF spaces. Conceived by Willis Polk, Daniel Burnham and Julia Morgan, the ballroom features floor-to-ceiling arched windows allowing views of downtown, which are nothing short of spellbinding come nightfall, as well as a signature coffered ceiling. The hand-carved wood detailing and neoclassical accents aren’t too shabby, either.

Under Cupid's Span

Not everyone can throw down an annual salary for a wedding. And not everyone has hundreds of friends and family clawing their way to but you a Tiffany’s gravy boat on your registry. Some people want a simple affair with just a handful of friends and adoptive family. Which is why getting hitched under Cupid’s Span is one of the most beautiful, cost-effective bets.

In addition to the monumental Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen ode to amour, the Bay Bridge also provides a stellar backdrop. There are also a bevy of nearby restaurants for the reception, and Hotel Vitale for the all-important honeymoon night.

Swedenborgian Church

The 100-year-old American craftsman church in Presidio Heights provides stellar spot for a wedding of 100-130 people in the chapel, or 60-80 guests in the garden. In addition to its structural beauty, this national historic landmark is is non-denominational and open to people of all backgrounds.

San Francisco City Hall, the Rotunda

Getting married under the rotunda at City Hall is as San Francisco as sourdough bread and the Castro in June. But it’s also quite the spectacle—all eye will be on you, from invited family and friends to civil servants who work in the office and people making their way inside to complain to their supervisor. If you don’t mind an audience (it is, after all, your big day), this is the best place to go for a wide audience in a stunning setting. Also available for private weddings and receptions, but like getting most things done at City Hall, it will cost you. And one more thing, San Francisco City Hall is the birthplace of the same-sex rights movement. Doesn’t get much better than that.

San Francisco City Hall, Fourth Floor

If you’re less inclined to show off on the steps under the Rotunda, the elegant (and more chic) fourth floor provides an ideal setting for a smaller party. This architecturally stunning to boot.

Conservatory of Flowers

The Conservatory is available to rent for ceremony, cocktail hour, seated dinner, and dancing receptions. Couples can host the whole shebang all or scale it down. Best of all, wedding guests move through the landmark facility throughout the evening, being treated to the flora and flowers inside. Bonus: Reserved parking in the Dahlia Garden, where the city’s official flower is at its peak July through October.

It doesn’t get much better, or affordable, than getting hitched in San Francisco’s most popular park, with the city skyline providing a stellar backdrop. We recommend an early wedding in the weekends. Park goers are also apt at cheering you on.
