On the heels of the current president’s inauguration Friday morning, thousands of people took to the Golden Gate Bridge in response. Christened Bridge Together, protesters dressed in purple (noted as the symbolic color of anti-bullying) and joined hands across the entire span of San Francisco’s most iconic structure.
On Friday, several protests and rallies, both planned and spontaneous, will take place during and following the inauguration of the president-elect. San Francisco’s collective response will begin at 8 a.m. and go well into the evening.
Today marks the 79th anniversary of the city's most iconic structure, the Golden Gate Bridge, the world's most photographed bridge. On May 27, 1937, approximately 200,000 people crossed the bridge in honor of its opening, paying only $0.25.
