Hidden from the street on Alameda Island sits a European-style home designed by Ernest Coxhead, a preeminent architect of the California Arts and Crafts movement.

Featuring four beds, two and a half baths, and 4,501 square feet, 1272 Caroline, built in 1893, stood out even then as Coxhead bypassed the Victorian design trend popular in the Bay Area at that time. The most alluring part of this house, which has been recently restored, is the oak entryway replete with wood paneling, Corinthian columns, high ceilings, crown moldings, domed ceiling, and—deliriously—a grand staircase.
