Metallica guitarist’s Sea Cliff mansion returns with slimmer price tag

Built in 1926, this Spanish-Mediterranean Sea Cliff home—most notable for its former owner, longtime Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett—has seen its price drop from a cool $16 million (in December 2016) to now a leaner $13 million.

Featuring four beds, four and a half baths, and three floors, 320 Sea Cliff is perched above China Beach. Among its many fine details: a sweeping staircase and a master bathroom with views of the Pacific Ocean to gaze at while brushing your teeth.

The framed posters of classic horror films (including several of the 1934 Boris Karloff/Bela Lugosi collaboration The Black Cat), which are part of Hammett’s own collection, are an added delight to the staging. (Alas, they do not come with property purchase.)

The home, while gorgeous in its own right, might be a hard sell; most of the city’s freshly moneyed tech set still prefer areas in the Mission District, newfangled renovations within a few blocks of Dolores Park. The elite enclaves of yore, sadly, are not as popular with the city’s new billionaires.

But all hope isn’t lost. A $3 million cut should help entice those looking for an oasis at the edge of the city.

Note: This Hammett-owned pad shouldn’t be confused for this other Hammett-owned pad, located down the street at 308 Sea Cliff, which sold this year for $12,800,000. The guitarist had two tony Sea Cliff homes. Go figure.
