Ballyhooed as the first hotel for the nascent Mission Bay neighborhood, the Marriott SOMA Mission Bay Hotel, which will be located a few blocks north of the Chase Center site and just south of AT&T Park, broke ground this week.
The hotel will feature 250 rooms spread across 17 stories and will include a street side cafe, art from local artists, and a rooftop lounge and garden, which will be open for public use.
“This hotel will provide a peerless hospitality experience for our visitors while creating good-paying union construction jobs for our workers,” said Mayor Mark Farrell in a statement, according to NBC Bay Area. “As the hub for our growing biotech community and the future home of the Warriors, Mission Bay is poised to become another world-class attraction for our city. This hotel will be the foundation for that bright future.”

While the hotel is expected to bring in $2 million annually, the project will also create an estimated 1,100 construction jobs and 160 permanent jobs.
San Francisco-based firm Hornberger + Worstell will help develop and design the hotel, which is currently scheduled to open in summer 2020.
