What with news about San Francisco’s less than savory sanitary conditions—which is nothing new, of course, although it managed to stoke the flames of the gray old lady this week—let’s head east and take to the hills for a respite.

This circa-1929 Tudor in the Berkeley Hills is nothing short of dreamy—a four-bed, three-bath, 2,093-square-foot abode at 866 Spruce that maintains most of its period charm with vaulted ceilings, high beams, archways, and stained glass leaded diamond windows.

Even the kitchen and bathrooms maintain their original integrity, with the latter rooms still featuring their original colorful tile work.

Finally, a word about the view, which we don’t normally care one whit about: A large picture window in the living room perfectly frames the Golden Gate Bridge. Lovely.

Asking is $1,099,000.
