It’s been a tough year for Northern California. If ever folks needed to unwind with a day at the beach with hundreds of corgis in Halloween costumes, now is the time.
And with that, Saturday marked the 2017 Corgi Con at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. The assembly of corgis, corgi fanciers, and corgi watchers last manifested in the surf and sand in June, but Corgi Con (now in its fourth year) is so popular that it’s a biannual event.
Indeed, the runaway success of Corgi Con is almost startling. Back in 2014 the event drew only 40 corgis plus assorted owners and onlookers—a fairly sizable jamboree.
But the official corgi count for June’s gathering clocked in at roughly 900 of the adorable, short-legged show stealers. And each new corgi conglomeration appears to be growing both in number and in elaborate set pieces.
This latest affair featured corgi races, a corgi obstacle course, and, apropos of Halloween, a corgi costume contest.
