As this week’s storm approaches, poised to be one whopper of several strong systems, it might be best to prepare accordingly. If you haven’t already, one way is to sandbag your doorways and other areas prone to flooding. Luckily, many places give them out for free or very little charge.
Some places require you to fill the bags yourselves. So be prepared to shovel/bring a shovel. It’s wet out right now, sure. But if there’s a break, it might be best to get sandbagging.
Here’s a list of where in the Bay Area you can get sandbags.
San Francisco
Public Works (Marin Street/Kansas Street, not the nightclub) will provide SF residents and business up to 10 free sandbags leading up to and during storms. Bring proof of residency.
Alameda County
951 Turner Court, Hayward
4825 Gleason Drive, Dublin
Ambrose
3105 Willow Pass Road, Bay Point (Bring a shovel. Bags are located in a large green plastic trash bin on the west side of the parking lot next to the fence line approximately 3/4 of the way back to the playing fields.)
Byron Airpot: 500 Eagle Court, Byron (Bring a shovel. Bags are located in front of the pump house near the flag pole.)
