During 2007 and 2009, Oscar-winning oddball actor Nic Cage spent a brief spell as a homeowner in Russian Hill. Cage’s association with the Bay Area should come as little surprise as he is, after all, a Coppola. And during that time, the Wild at Heart actor purchased this downright gorgeous Gothic Tudor in Russian Hill.
According to a 2014 Curbed SF report on the same home, “Cage picked up the six-bedroom Gothic Tudor mansion at 898 Francisco Street in Russian Hill in...2006. He paid $9.4 million for the house and an adjacent vacant lot.” He later sold both at a loss for $8.5 million.

Today, however, 898 Francisco returns to the marketing asking $12,000,000.
Built in 1914, the house at features a wrought-iron gate topped with an intimidating cross. Period details inside include beam ceilings, windows bearing crests, a mercifully updated kitchen, and Gothic touches like arch and quatrefoil detailing.

Upstairs a walk-in master closet boasts wood paneling with 1920’s art deco flair, while the attic space, renovated with a bedroom, bath, and walk-in closet, could house a family comfortably.
In all, a stunning example of Gothic influence in San Francisco. Also of note, an adjacent vacant lot next door is available for a cool $3,500,000. And this dream house is located right next to the cable car track.
