Interior Design Firm Picked for New Warriors Arena

Despite a lawsuit attempting to thwart the impending Chase Center's construction in Mission Bay

Bay Area global architecture firm Gensler was selected to tend to the interior design of the upcoming Warriors Arena (aka Chase Center) in San Francisco’s Mission Bay. The firm is responsible for the interiors of other such sports-related structures as the Cleveland Browns’s FirstEnergy Stadium, Hohokam Stadium for the Oakland A's, and BMO Field for Toronto Football Club.

Set to open for the 2019-20 NBA season, the new 18,000-plus-seat arena complex will take up 11 acres and feature restaurants, cafes, offices, public plazas, and more.

But a "grassroots" effort is underway to keep the arena out of San Francisco's budding Mission Bay neighborhood, and a lawsuit this Friday will go before the San Francisco Superior Court to try blocking construction. Opponents, which include activist group SaveMuni, claim the city officials violated the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) by failing to whip up other locations for the arena and by not exhaustively addressing the Chase Center’s potential environmental impacts (e.g., traffic, air quality, noise).

Stay tuned.
