2. The Contemporary Jewish Museum — SoMa

#ArchitectureMW is the #MuseumWeek focus today. Ever noticed the terra cotta cherubs holding garlands above a plaque over @jewseum's entrance? Engraved on this centerpiece is 1907, the year the original building—a Pacific Gas & Electric Power Substation—was completed. It's our 50th anniversary this year! But it's also the 99th birthday of our beautiful #beauxarts building. Built in 1917, this building (originally the main @sfpubliclibrary) was re-imagined in 2003 by Italian architect and visionary #GaeAulenti. The result: breathtaking #neoclassical details, intact, mixed with modern design elements.
