When we first wrote about 862 Regal Road in Berkeley, we noted that it was the most modern home on the market and that it was asking for $3.4 million. It took a price reduction to $3.2 million to produce a buyer, and he or she was only willing to pay $3.124 million in a deal that recently closed.
The design by architect Christopher Haas is minimalist and all about the view — walls of glass roll away to make rooms feel like open-air pavilions. The simple forms and stark white walls are balanced by high-grain wood floors and chunky shapes.
As we observed in the original article, views of treetops, the bay, and distant hills and provide a feeling of a permanent vacation.
