Landmark Berkeley mansion, built for oil baron, finds buyer

Sold for almost $2 million under initial asking

Originally built for oil baron/banker Paul 0. Tietzen, the 1910 mansion in Berkeley’s Claremont Court, which went on the market in June, finally sold this week.

Initially asking $5.45 million, it closed well below that price for a still warm $3.6 million.

2840 Claremont boasts eight bedrooms, five and a half baths, and 8,639 square feet. While the structure will need an upkeep, its details and period vibe are something else.
