Little West Oakland Victorian asks $599K

The most Vic for your buck

West Oakland has its own collection of lovely Victorians, including this number at 1615 8th Street circa 1891 which listed for $599,000 (ie, the price of shingles on a similar home in San Francisco).

No big remodels here, although they did install an in-law units downstairs, which technically ups the bed and bath count to three and two respectively for the entire house. Pretty impressive for a home of 975 feet; think of it as concentrated Victorian.

From the curb, this place is as pretty as a picture can get. The color palate skews yellow inside, which is really not ideal. But just take a look at things like that kitchen ceiling and those borrowed light windows connecting the entryway and living room.

Oddly, this house last sold just over a year ago for $525K. A small-time flip? Back then it had listed for this same price of $599,000, so maybe the present owners hope someone else will rank its potential a bit higher than they did.
