Editor's Note: This post was originally published in October 2016. We are republishing it with new material in honor of the Halloween season.
San Francisco expelled all but a few of our local cemeteries decades ago, in the process ceding some of our most picturesque cultural resources.
Even though we prize these sites for their historical value, do remember that most are still actively being used, and to be respectful when visiting. But as long as you mind your manners, a stroll through the peaceful resting places of a dozen generations of our Bay Area forebears can be a lovely way to enjoy the Halloween season.
But don’t take our word for it, get a gander for yourselves.
