After attending a hard hat tour of the new and improved south side of Dolores Park, we were all excited for the grand opening that was set to happen a week ago. Worried about rain, city officials cancelled the event. Now there's word that the party is back on for next Wednesday. And, once again, the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department is asking visitors to bring their glow and take home their trash.
According to an event Facebook page, the theme of the party is "Light Up Dolores." Makes sense, as the festivities get going at 4 p.m. and last until 7 p.m. Organizers at the Parks Department ask attendees to bring/wear glowing and light-up equipment and accessories.
On the tour, city officials made it clear that they were sensitive to the problems of litter and graffiti in what can feel like SF's most popular gathering spot. Those sentiments are reflected in the invitation. The event's Facebook page cautions: "This is a LEAVE NO TRACE event. Pack it in and pack it out."
Despite the fact there's some serious rain predicted for Friday and Saturday, it looks like Wednesday will be partly sunny and warm.
