The currently rather dreary Van Ness Avenue is set to undergo some big changes over the next few years as new development floods in. The latest element of the Van Ness makeover to be announced is a bit more artistic. Three 20-foot light sculptures created by Jose Pardo have been proposed for the Bus Rapid Transit platforms on Van Ness at the Market, Sutter-Bush, and Union Street Stations. The steel sculptures will have LED lights inside. Prado explains that they are meant to be "an urban coastal redwood" and would be constructed as public art to accompany the new Van Ness BRT route along the busy street. The Visual Arts Committee will vote on the proposal on October 21.
