Curbed National is reporting that The Cannery, a new planned community that's taking shape in Davis, hits all the notes near and dear to a Northern Californian's heart. Green? Check. Urban farming? Check. Parking for bikes and electric cars? Check and check.
The 100-acre development is built around a working farm that grows vegetables, fruits, and nuts. The solar-powered homes are also near 10 miles of bike trails and an agri-classroom. As the article says, developers are eager to tap into the foodie generation they believe are eager to reconnect with the land. Apparently, there's an interested audience, as large crowds reportedly swarmed the site when it opened last month.
There are 547 homes in the development ranging in price from townhouses in the mid $400,000s to larger homes in the $1 million dollar range.
