A "portal to the world" opened in Hayes Valley today in the form of a gold shipping container that offers visitors the chance to live video chat with people in Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Afghanistan, and Iran. Inside the container are two chairs, carpeting that offers soundproofing from the neighborhood outside, and a projected image of the person on the other end of the line. Reservations for chats are available via the website for Shared Studios, the company behind the portal. [Hoodline/Shared Studios]
