In the next few years, a huge new development named One Oak will rise on the corner of Market Street and Van Ness Avenue, but while developer Build Inc. goes through the city's approval process it is leasing out vacant space on the site to local non-profits at no cost. Leases are all temporary, and tenants are responsible for the cost of any needed improvements but not for rent. The buildings on the site were previously more than half vacant, and the developer is hoping to activate the area and draw positive attention to it before construction begins. [SF Chronicle]
