Mark Zuckerberg's Security May or May Not Be Causing a Neighbor to Sleep in Car

New, 6 comments

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's epic renovation on his Eureka Valley home has been inconveniencing his neighbors for more than two years now, but the saga reached a new level in June, when the tech titan's security detail took out a temporary restraining order against a 62-year-old resident. According to Capp Street Crap, an intermittently homeless former accountant, William "Gordon" Kinzer, is prohibited from going within 1,500 feet of Zuckerberg's Liberty Hill house, which he bought in 2012 for $10 million as a "pied-a-terre." (Zuckerberg and wife Priscilla Chan live in Palo Alto.) Kinzer has admitted to yelling at guards from Facebook's Global Security Operations Center team over taking up too much parking and blocking a fire hydrant.

Facebook filed paperwork requesting a workplace violence restraining order, in which 11 guards describe interactions with Kinzer that range from unpleasant to possibly aggressive. Until he was served with the order June 16, Kinzer had been sleeping at a friend's house nearby. But since his room is only about 600 feet from Zuckerberg's property, he's had to sleep in his car every night.

Capp Street Crap spoke with Kinzer's friend and landlord, William Kennedy, who called his friend harmless but described what Capp Street Crap summarized as "mental health issues." "Gordon's physical and mental health has seriously deteriorated since being removed from my home," Kennedy told Capp Street Crap, which reached out to Facebook attorney Andrew Klein but did not receive a response before press time. Kennedy also told Capp Street Crap that Kinzer slept in his car on occasion even when he was staying with Kennedy as a way of giving his landlord some privacy. At least we can take heart that there's still some parking left?

A restraining order hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. For a full rundown, read Capp Street Crap's account.
