Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various San Francisco neighborhoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Today's price range: $7,300-$8,000.

↑ You want ornate? This epitome of grandeur clocks in at 3,450 square feet and has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's a Pacific Heights flat in a building built in 1898, and it looks as though it's been impeccably cared for ever since. There's even a "reception room that was originally imported from Paris." The rent? A cool $8,000/month. There's laundry in the 3-unit building, pets are negotiable, and parking's available if you want to shell out an additional $500/month.

↑ This very contemporary single-family home in Bayview is on the rental market for $7,500/month. The home boasts three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. While square footage isn't listed, it's clear from the photos that this is a pretty spacious pad. Interior perks include floor-to-ceiling windows in the main living area, a master bedroom with a fireplace, and a roof deck with a built-in fire pit and wet bar. Small pets will be considered, laundry and parking are included.

↑ In Russian Hill, a rental above the Italian restaurant Allegro Romano is available for $7,300/month. The 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom, 1,000-square-foot apartment is on the middle floor (above the restaurant) of a 2-unit building. The unit was remodeled just this year, and is a happy medium between retained architectural integrity and modern amenities. No parking or pets, but there is laundry in the building.

↑ In the Lower Haight, $7,500/month gets you a 2-bedroom, 1.5-bath, 1750-square-foot top floor flat. It's packed with architectural charm, from built-ins galore to beamed ceilings. The home also has modern amenities like big, stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. Laundry's in the unit, parking will run you $300/month, and there are no pets allowed.

↑ Private backyard pools are quite uncommon around this town, so we're pretty excited about this one in the back of a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home in Noe Valley. There are hints of Victorian details throughout the abode, like bay windows in the living room and wainscoting in the dining room. The rent's $7,495/month. No mention of pets, but parking and laundry come with the house.
