Urban designer Evan Rose, the New York-based principal of Sitelab Urban Studio, has died. Rose started out at the Planning Department in the 1990s and later joined the San Francisco firm SMWM. As John King writes, Rose moved to New York in 2009 in order to better treat a rare form of cancer, and he founded Sitelab as a bicoastal practice with Laura Crescimano, working on ambitious plans for Pier 70 and the 150-acre Napa Pipe factory site.
