The harsh realities of urban living—space and budgetary constraints chief among them—mean that designers continue to come up with increasingly ingenious ways to make the best use of limited square footage in apartments and still manage to fit in all the necessities. Polish designer Szymon Hanczar is one such intrepid soul, and he turned his 13-square-meter (about 140-square-foot) apartment into efficient, modular quarters. A lofted bed floats over a kitchenette and a storage closet that conceals a washing machine (!) and shelving. There's even space for a freestanding desk and six-drawer dresser.
