Traffic Wars

As the battle over the proposed Warriors arena in Mission Bay heats up, plans for nearly $40 million in transit improvements around the stadium are being drawn up to mitigate the effects of traffic and demand for transportation in the neighborhood. An environmental impact report released late last week studied numerous scenarios, including simultaneous games at AT&T Park, and found that the planned transit upgrades would be sufficient to keep down congestion. Those improvements include new Muni light rail vehicles, crossover tracks to allow vehicles to pass each other on the T-Third line, and the extension of the Muni platform near the arena. [SF Examiner]
