380-Foot Hotel, Residential Tower Planned for Transbay District

A new 36-story tower could rise in the Transbay district if newly filed plans from developers SKS Investments and Pacific Eagle Holdings move ahead. The 555 Howard Street tower would be split between a 223-room hotel and 127 residential units and would be located across from the new Transbay Transit Center. According to the San Francisco Business Times, about 16 percent more of the tower's space would go to residential use than hotel use.

The tower would replace two much shorter buildings that currently house office space, an indoor driving range, and a sandwich shop. It would join a host of new developments flooding the area as the Transbay Transit Center takes shape. The ground floor is set to hold 6,300 square feet of retail space, and there would be 76 parking spaces on-site. Given the project's very early stage, other details about it, including a potential architect, are still sparse.
