An 85-unit building at 101 Hyde Street in the Tenderloin has been approved by Planning despite concerns from some neighborhood residents over the demolition of the existing building, which is used by the United States Postal Service for general delivery. When completed, the new building will hold nearly 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and 15 parking spaces in addition to the residential units. The Postal Service is likely to move to Fox Plaza or another nearby location, but the new building's sponsors agreed that the Postal Service would be welcome to start operating out of the 101 Hyde retail space when it is finished.
