The greasy SoMa dive All Star Donut shop may not be long for this world if developer Realtex Inc.'s new proposal for an 89-unit residential building becomes reality. A Preliminary Project Assessment, which is the very first step for a new development, has been submitted to SF Planning detailing plans for a nine-story building with 89 units at 399 5th Street, near Harrison. Both the donut shop and an office building would be demolished to make way for the new construction.
This is Realtex Inc's fourth proposed project in SoMa, with plans for 363 6th Street, 1335 Folsom, and 1394 Harrison already put forward. The project as it is now envisioned would include 18 studios, 24 one-bedrooms, and 47 two-bedrooms ranging from an average of 430 square feet for a studio up to 945 square feet for a two-bed. Parking for 22 cars is included in plans. A roof deck and back courtyard would provide open space, and the ground floor would include commercial space, but we're assuming that it would not be used for a donut shop.
