Underneath its carefully calibrated indie cred and general baked-on hippie crust, San Francisco is a rugged, sometimes foreboding place. Photographer Toby Harriman plays up the city's natural drama in a new time-lapse video shot over the course of several years and set to an armhair-raising score befitting an operatic movie trailer. There are cranes spinning like sputtering helicopter blades, crazed aerial camera pans, and fog pouring forth like Niagara Falls. It's either the beginning of a Batman movie that we dearly hope will be made one day or the prelude to the NIMBY battles happening all around us.
