Back in 2013, the former home of Frank and Frances Alioto—whose clan included both former mayor Joseph Alioto and the Fisherman's Wharf restaurateur of the same name—changed hands for $11.7 million, after listing a few months prior for $16.5 million. Not long afterward, a Craigslist ad popped up seeking a tenant for the mansion to fork over $25,000 in monthly rent. We're not sure whether that ever worked out, but since then the property's owner has upped the ask eightfold and is now offering the mansion on Airbnb to the tune of $7K per night, making the property San Francisco's most expensive Airbnb rental.
The six-bedroom mansion, built by Albert Farr in 1916 according to the listing, requires a minimum seven-night stay—bringing the full cost to rent the manse up to $49,070. It sleeps 16 people, so really that's just $3,067 per person—a steal, right? (Someone's going to have to sleep in the converted attic and in the au pair suite, though, so dibs-calling is key.)
The property is filled with period details, from the portico entrance to the millwork, stained glass, and bas-relief panels. As one previous guest notes in a review, the brick-walled kitchen is a bit out of date and not in line with the luxurious feel of the rest of the mansion. The views, however, are sublime, and the furnishings include canopy beds and big chandeliers. Airbnb guests are also treated to plush towels and bathrobes, as well as high-end linens and toiletries for their stay. For those who don't want to drop nearly $50,000 on an Airbnb, the property is also available for one-day events, with rates starting at $8,000 for fewer than 20 people. Three on-site security staff are included in the price.
The mansion is leased out by a "bespoke travel company" called Travive that also has properties in New York, Tuscany, Mykonos, and Anguilla.
