Changing of the Guard

After 11 years of planning to rehab the Old Mint and turn it into a city history museum, the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society will lose its lease in August. Though the society raised more than $14 million and made crucial upgrades, fund-raising has stalled for a project that ultimately needs as much as $60 million more in renovations. The history museum idea isn't dead, though, and is a possibility the city will continue to explore. [SFGate/Old Mint rendering via HOK]
