Uber Surge

Uber signed a major lease this week to take up an estimated 173,000 square feet at the former Chevron headquarters at 555 Market Street in the Financial District. With Uber's planned Mission Bay headquarters slated to open in 2017, the new lease means Uber is on track to become the tech company with the second-largest amount of space leased in San Francisco, following only Salesforce. Uber currently has about 700 employees in the city and will have room for as many as 5,000 workers when the Mission Bay campus opens, the Business Times estimates. [SF Business Times; previously]
