Architect David Baker's latest SoMa residential building at 1178 Folsom Street is finally beginning to move forward. Though the renderings for the mixed-use rental project, with its boxy pattern of sunshades, have been around for some time, the architect recently posted floor plans and sketches of unit plans. The six-story project, which is being developed by Erik Liu, will include 42 micro-units between 290 and 350 square feet—a bit larger than the typical studios a few blocks away at the Panoramic.
In addition to the micro-units, there will also be ground-floor retail, office space on the second floor, and a central courtyard for the building's residents.
The project will go before the Planning Commission on March 26. If all goes according to plan, construction could begin as early as fall 2015, and last roughly 18 months.
