Eviction Wars

Tenants of the rent-controlled live-work units at 1049 and 1067 Market Street were served with lawsuits at a City Hall meeting, the latest chapter in a long-running saga that has been ongoing since 2013. The buildings are zoned as commercial space but have been rented out to tenants since at least the 1990s. The owner now wants to return the buildings to office use but has been stalled by city legislation that put a temporary hold on evictions. Supervisor Jane Kim has now proposed to extend the moratorium on converting the units to offices. That legislation will go up for a vote next week. [SF Examiner; Hoodline]
