They may not be as iconic as the Painted Ladies, but the brightly colored houses of Central Avenue in the Haight are even more vividly hued than their famed counterparts. Now, the electric blue house that sits at the center of the group has changed hands for $1.9 million. The six-bedroom home has plenty of space but isn't in the best condition. Its seller also needed a quick sale, which is perhaps the reason for the low $590 per square foot price.
The house was built way back in 1906, although it isn't entirely clear exactly when it received its distinctive coat of paint (what is certiain is that it's more counterculture than classic Victorian.) Some Victorian fixtures like built-in cabinets and wainscoting remain, and there's a yard out back that is in need of some serious sprucing. An in-law unit with a private entrance sits downstairs. The house looks like it may have had tenants living inside in recent times, but its listing promised that it would be delivered vacant.
It's almost certain that the new owners have big plans for this place, and it needs them, at least inside. We can't help but hope that the outside stays just as bright as it is right now.
