Caltrans Implosion of the Old Bay Bridge Pier is Complete

New, 1 comment

After much planning and one delay, the implosion of an old Bay Bridge pier was over in just six seconds this morning. Bay Area news outlets are reporting that the maneuver happened at 7 a.m., and that dynamite successfully brought down the largest remaining pier of the old bridge. Currently traffic is moving across the span and BART is operating as normal. There have been concerns about marine life in the area, but there is no word on whether any wildlife was affected.

Caltrans installed cameras above and below the water, and promised to post video of the event on their website and on YouTube.
