Living in the Round (Literally) in Oakland's Montclair District

You don't see many round houses, but there's a really cool one on the market in Oakland's Montclair District. The listing doesn't go into much detail—it starts with the sentence, "yes, they make round houses" and goes on to reference the Jetsons. However, the floor plan that's included lays out the concrete details. The main living floor is formed like a pie, and wedge-shaped rooms include two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a dining room, and a laundry. A closet and a couple of bathrooms form the center core. Large, floor-to-ceiling windows ring the circumference of the circle. There's a more conventional square family room off to one side, and looking at it, we wonder if it was a later addition to the 1970s-era house. The asking price for this circular sensation is $779,000.

Upstairs, there are two more square rooms—a bedroom, a bath, and an office. In total, there are three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths in the 1,952-square-foot house.

You might think furnishing a curved room would be a problem, and we are sure it isn't without challenges. However, the sparse pieces here show how it might be done.
