A new book called Remaking the Bay Bridge details how the costs of the new bridge connecting San Francisco to the East Bay soared from the first estimate in 1995 of $250 million to an eventual $6.5 billion. That final figure doesn't include any interest or financing costs, which could make the real tally of the bridge closer to $13 billion. Oh, and that first figure was supposed to cover both the east and west spans, while the final price tag covers just the east. [CityLab]
