Lake Tahoe Vacation Home Marries Rustic and Modern

Designed by San Francisco firm Sagemodern, this gorgeous contemporary house in Lake Tahoe is a far cry from the log-cabin-reminiscent dwellings for which the region is best known. It does, though, have something in common with those rugged archetypal structures—a straightforwardness about its materials. There's very little unnecessary adornment here. Instead, structural concrete and exposed timber do the heavy aesthetic lifting—and do it well. The brutish beauty of board-formed-concrete walls and steel framing is on full display, while luxe slate flooring rounds out the wood-timber-steel material palette. An open floor plan helps accommodate a variety of functions over three levels.
