Did Los Altos Hills' $27M Stonebrook Court Estate Finally Sell?

New, 3 comments

The grand Morgan Estate—otherwise known as Stonebrook Court—in Los Altos Hills has been searching for a buyer off and on for six years. Venture capitalist owner Kelly Porter initially listed the place for $45 million back in 2008 but lowered his expectations down to $27 million for the most recent listing, which came last March. The property has now been listed as pending for weeks, meaning that it is likely under contract, and Porter announced on his Facebook page yesterday that he was moving out of Stonebrook to a new home in nearby Woodside. We're dying to know the final price of the 30,000-square-foot estate, which is listed on the Federal Historic Registry (meaning low property taxes!), and has undergone a seven-year renovation under Porter's care.

When Porter purchased the property, which had most recently been used as a school, it was in disrepair, with broken windows and neglected grounds. The multimillion-dollar transformation, led by Richard Beard of BAR Architects, required the work of more than 1,000 craftsmen and left the Tudor-style mansion with gold-leaf ceilings and a Venetian-style ballroom. The compound consists of four separate structures, including a guest house and a caretaker's facility that also includes a gym. There are seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and parking for 20 cars. And, just as one would suspect with a property this elaborate, a secret speakeasy is hidden behind a false door in the library.

If Stonebrook did indeed sell for $27 million, that would put its price per square at $900, which, as a commenter pointed out when the estate listed, is less than a newly constructed condo in the Castro.
