It has been more than six years since San Mateo's Bay Meadows Racetrack closed and work began on Wilson Meany's new megaproject on the site. Two townhome developments have already sold out, and now the project's first rentals are finally available. The apartment community, called Field House, has 108 units that range from studios priced between $2,700 and $2,900 up to three-bedrooms asking $4,875 to $5,200. Sizes start at 580 square feet for a studio and head up to 1,836 square feet for a three-story townhome rental.
Bay Meadows was always intended to be an amenity-laden development, and the Field House apartments live up to expectations. There is a heated pool, two landscaped courtyards with barbecue spots, a community room with a gourmet kitchen, and a fitness center. The larger Bay Meadows community also includes Delaware Street, a main thoroughfare with a town square; bocce ball courts; a beer garden; and a bandshell. When Bay Meadows is complete, it will bring more than 1,100 new housing units. Field House is set to open to residents this month.
