Following a deadly fire Wednesday night in the Mission, residents of the building that burned have said that they never heard any fire alarms warning them of the blaze. The building's fire-alarm control panel worked when it was last checked a year ago, but its certification was set to expire the same night that the fire began. Complaints about the building that included nonworking fire alarms, fire extinguishers not in their proper places, and blocked fire escapes had been recorded in the past.
