Housing the Homeless

The City of San Francisco will launch a temporary housing center for homeless people at former school buildings on Mission near 16th street. Designed to help the roughly 400 street campers who sleep in the vicinity, the pilot project will serve as immediate shelter and a gateway to finding permanent rooms and other services. Mayor Ed Lee is expected to announce the initiative at this morning's the State of the City address. [SFGate]
