Caltrain ridership has hit record levels for four straights years, and now the system has responded by spending $15 million to purchase 16 new rail cars that will help meet demand. Currently, trains are filled to well over their 600-seat capacity during the morning and evening rush, and the crowds are expected to just keep increasing. The new cars will provide some relief, but it could be a full year before they are operational. [SF Business Times]
