Airbnb is the target of a class-action lawsuit claiming that the short-term rental service knowingly profits from allegedly illegal listings for SROs, which are not normally permitted on the short-term market. The suit originated with two tenants of the Sheldon Hotel, a 62-unit SRO in the Tenderloin, who, according to the Examiner, worry about losing their homes. This is all very timely, because on September 15 the Board of Supervisors' Land Use and Economic Development Committee will hold a hearing on a law that would regulate short-term rental services such as Airbnb.
