As new housing comes to the neighborhoods along San Francisco's waterfront, the Port of San Francisco believes that more water taxis may be a solution to increased traffic congestion. As of now, the city has just two water taxi companies, both of which offer very limited service. But with tens of thousands of new units headed to places like Treasure Island and Hunters Point, demand for hydrocraft could surge like it has in waterfront cities like Boston and Sydney and offer an alternative to cars—that is, for anyone who doesn't want to be seen on one of these.
