Will the Building Boom Take a Second Look at Bayview?

Although new housing has been springing up across San Francisco, the Bayview tends to get passed over in the construction craze. A new Preliminary Project Assessment submitted to Planning lays out plans for a four-story building with nine new units on Fitzgerald Avenue, a block from Third Street. The site, which currently holds a single-family home built in 1909, sold back in June for $975,000. It was advertised as being zoned for nine units, and the new owners have wasted no time taking advantage of that zoning with their proposal. The units would start at 1,000 square feet and head on up to 2,700. There would be parking for nine cars spread across three separate garages. The units fit into the Bayview Hunters Point Area Plan, although Planning did recommend major improvements to the quality and character of architecture proposed.
